Today, Apple's iPhone 5C is available for pre-order. The iPhone 5S, however, is not. Of course, if you have an iTunes or iCloud account, you may already know this from an email message Apple sent earlier today.

Apple announced two new iPhones on Tuesday. Both will be available for purchase on September 20.

iOS 7 Introduces Support for Exchange Notes

The upcoming release of iOS 7, slated for fall of this year, will introduce a feature that many devout Exchange users have been waiting for since the first iPhone hit store shelves back in 2007 — support for syncing of Exchange Notes!

To learn how to use Notes on iOS, see Using iOS Notes.

In 2007, when the Apple redefined the smartphone, Exchange users were able to sync mail, contacts, and calendars with a single Exchange account ... using IMAP, which many enterprises didn't bother to support.

In 2008, Apple held a special event that targeted "iPhone in the Enterprise." During that event, they announced support for Exchange ActiveSync, as well as push email, contacts, and calendars. They also included support for multiple Exchange accounts on a single iOS device.

In 2011, Apple released iOS 5 with a new Reminders feature. Reminders introduced support for Exchange Tasks, allowing enterprise workers to do even more from within the native iOS software suite.

And, in just a few short weeks, Apple will release iOS 7 and add support for Exchange Notes. Read more about iOS 7 and Business features at Apple's website.

Microsoft Exchange 2010 users can also now sync notes with Outlook on their Mac or PC.

With the exception of Journal, Apple's touch-enabled devices will be able to work with all Outlook-related item types.

A pilgrimage to San Francisco

I am taking a pilgrimage to San Francisco to see Getting Things Done (GTD) luminaries and learn more about my favorite GTD app, OmniFocus. The event I’m attending is called the OmniFocus Setup and it promises to deliver lots of productivity tips.

The Debut, scheduled for later this evening, will show a glimpse of OmniFocus 2, the next version of the OmniGroup's great productivity app. I can hardly wait.

Waze: Free turn-by-turn navigation for mobile

I am a commuter that drives to work five days a week, about an hour each way. I, along with many other iPhone users, have been awaiting turn-by-turn navigation, a much-vaunted feature of iOS 6. However, about two weeks before iOS 6 became available, I learned about a free navigation app called Waze.

Waze has reduced my commute by about 30 minutes a day, which is about 15 minutes saved each way, for the last four weeks. Needless to say, I have grown to trust it when it attempts to route me around traffic.

How does it work?

The Waze app shows a live map that it updates with public transit data and combines with real-time GPS data from other Waze users. With this collective GPS data, Waze is able to route a driver around traffic slowdowns in real-time. In my case, on some days Waze directed me to take one freeway to work, while on other days it directed me to take a different one. And sometimes, Waze told me to exit the freeway and take surface streets to get around a particularly slow spot. After getting around the slowdown, Waze would then tell me to get back on the highway.

If you spend any amount of time driving around from place to place, consider using Waze on your smartphone. It's free and doesn't require creating an online profile to use it.

The only potential downside is the impact on battery life. Because Waze uses GPS and internet data to determine the location of other Waze users, you may find it uses as much as up to 30% of your battery to commute just one hour. For me, that's a small price to pay in order to save two and a half hours of drive time per week, but you can decide for yourself.

Waze is available on a number of mobile platforms, including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone.

Visit the Waze Download page to learn more.

One small Waze tip: Be sure to turn Waze off when you are finished with it, to help save on battery life. Touch the menu button, then touch the power button to shut it down.

Apple Announced the iPhone 5 Wednesday and Sold Out Friday

On Wednesday, Apple announced the new iPhone, iPhone 5. They also announced a new iPod Touch, a new iPod nano, and more. iOS 6, the software that powers the iPhone and iPad, made an appearance, too.

The new iPhone became available for pre-order earlier today, September 14, however they sold out in about an hour. In-store purchasing begins on September 21.

I, like many others, suspected that the new iPhone would debut without a number, like the latest iPad. Of course, Apple is famous for keeping people guessing at what they'll do next.
